Privacy and analytics

Anvil North uses optional website analytics to understand which research readers visit and how they use it. You can read the site and use its search and maps without accepting analytics.

Optional Google Analytics

Google Analytics loads only after you choose Accept analytics. If you decline, the site sends no analytics requests to Google. Analytics also stays off when JavaScript is disabled.

When enabled, Google Analytics measures page views and reading activity, including scrolls and engagement time. It uses first-party cookies to distinguish visits and processes technical information such as browser and device details and approximate location.

Page addresses sent by our tag omit query strings and fragments. Referrers are reduced to the referring website’s origin. Search terms, map-filter values and form entries are not sent as analytics events. Google Signals and advertising personalization are disabled.

Change your analytics choice at any time, or use Analytics settings in the footer. Choosing Decline analytics stops future measurement and clears this site’s Google Analytics cookies. If analytics is already running, the page reloads to remove the tag.

Cookies and saved preferences

We remember your analytics choice in this browser for up to 180 days. Analytics cookies beginning with _ga are configured to expire within 180 days. Clearing your browser’s site data removes these cookies and the saved choice; a later visit will ask again.

Google Analytics is configured to retain event-level and user-level data for 14 months, without extending the user retention period when you return. Standard aggregated reports are not governed by that limit and may remain available for longer. See Google’s data retention explanation.

The site’s analytics setting applies to this browser. Revoking consent does not erase data already collected by Google. Google explains its processing in How Google uses information from sites that use its services and its Privacy Policy.

Website delivery and messages

Cloudflare hosts and delivers this website. Website requests include technical information such as your IP address and browser details needed to serve and protect the site. This operational processing is separate from optional Google Analytics. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
